Lincolnshire Police - Staff training

During 2010 we worked with Lincolnshire Police to deliver an innovative training programme supported by the Migration Impact Fund for Integrated Neighbourhood Development. The core aim of the project was to equip and enable front line staff to undertake myth busting with a particular focus concerning migration.

The programme recognised the importance of including other Community Safety Partnership staff; local authority and housing officers as well as Police officers and PCSOs. The training was underpinned by emotional intelligence techniques and awareness, developing skills in active listening, understanding the real issues of concern, the ability to challenge without confrontation and to deal with misconception; also to improve the way in which to work with difficult customers.

The programme developed the understanding that peoples discussions with front line influenced how people felt about the area, Recognising the challenges faced by Lincolnshire Police and the wider partnership through pressures on budgets/resources the programme provided the skills base to better manage reputation and build trust.
