Cohesion and communication

The government have just announced £12m funding to be spent on improving community cohesion in 100 English council wards which have disaffected and disengaged white working class populations. TCC believe passionately in the need to involve members of all communities in cohesion work, and our skilled cohesion team are working with key groups across the country to reduce feelings of disempowerment and mistrust of social change.

An item on the BBC News at 10 on Tuesday 13th October draws attention to the importance of word of mouth communications working in areas like this, particularly where adult literacy rates are low. To see the story on BBC iPlayer, please click here: the item is 17 minutes into the programme.

TCC have been pioneering our word of mouth communications since 2007 in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, and are now looking at applying it more widely in London and beyond. In the last year, we have worked on community cohesion projects in Boston, Thurrock, Bexley, Havering, North-West Leicestershire, Stoke-on-Trent and Blackburn with Darwen.

If you would like to find out more about our cohesion work, please see the Communities section of this site or call us and speak to David Evans.
