Newham: results declared!

Congratulations to Kaycee de Belen, who has just been elected Young Mayor of Newham. Kaycee recieved more than 2500 votes out of the 7000 votes cast by young people aged 11 to 17 who live, work or study in the borough. Aadilah Ismail from Forest Gate received 900 votes and has become the Deputy Young Mayor.

The new Young Mayor, who is sixteen and lives in Stratford, said "Thank you to all my supporters throughout the campaign that helped me achieve my goal.

"I am so proud and excited to be the new Young Mayor of Newham and be the voice for young people in our borough. I am looking forward to reducing youth crime, creating better youth opportunities and focusing on education".

Kaycee, Aadilah and the Newham Youth Council will have a £25,000 budget to spend on activities for young people in the borough, as well as overseeing the £400,000 Youth Opportunity Fund and advising the Adult Mayor and council.
