HIV/AIDS in China
TCC's Dr Rowena Merrit, Director of Social Marketing and Behaviour Change, is travelling to China
with a team of international experts to implement strategies and training to combat the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS. Together with the National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Merritt will engage with Chinese health professionals to provide help and expertise.
Dr Merritt said: “HIV prevalence is still relatively low in China, but for certain groups of the population, rates are increasing rapidly. We will work with health professionals from around the country to help them understand the situation from at-risk populations’ perspectives. Only by understanding the barriers they face, can we develop solutions which will actually work.”
The team will jointly run a series of workshops to train the local teams in the techniques of social marketing and how they can be used to address the HIV problems facing China.
