TCC sponsors places on social marketing course
Tackling inequality isn’t limited to our project work. In these times of economic difficulty, we’re pleased to offer a free place on Brighton University’s much coveted Social Marketing PG Cert. Course.
As well as this, TCC is offering a number of part time study awards and prizes for outstanding students. TCC hopes to be able to help other organisations who want to train employees in social marketing but currently lack the funding:
“At a time when the budgets of many organisations are under pressure, we are delighted that we can do a little to help make this excellent course accessible to those who can benefit from it most,” says TCC Chairman Jonathan Upton.
TCC has donated £5,000 towards the fees of applicants from non-profit organisations and other professionals (depending upon personal circumstances). The sum is topped up by 50 per cent through a government matched-funding scheme which encourages philanthropic donations to universities.
TCC employees Chris Hill, Amy Richards and Matt Maguire are already enrolled on the course and are working hard towards their PG Cert. qualification. “The course is great for accrediting the existing social marketing skills that have been developed on TCC projects, and also from working with TCC’s Associate Director Rowena Merritt,” says Amy Richards, Senior Project Officer for TCC.
“Most people know what they should be doing to improve their health or reduce waste, but often find it difficult to change behaviour,” says Matt Wood, the University of Brighton’s Principal Lecturer in Marketing and Social Marketing PG Cert. Course Leader. “Evidence shows that just creating awareness and giving people facts and figures isn’t effective.”
The course is taught by leading business, social science and health academics and practitioners, including Professor Jeff French, founder of the National Social Marketing Centre and non-executive director within TCC’s social marketing division. The course will give students the skills and confidence to plan and manage social marketing campaigns and behavioural change programmes.
The university is currently accepting award applications, and the deadline is May 31st.
