TCC host cohesion web meeting
Participants from Brighton to Bradford were able to view and listen
to the same live presentation from their own desks on Friday, as The Campaign Company hosted a ‘webinar’ – an interactive meeting on the web – focused on its latest methodologies for promoting community cohesion.David Evans, Managing Director of The Campaign Company, was joined by Professor Jeff French, Director of the National Social Marketing Centre, and Kevin Huggins-Cooper, former Director of Organisational Improvement at North Tyneside Council. In an hour-long session, they explored the growing trend of local community cohesion programmes, examined the incentives and pitfalls within the national policy framework, and discussed how to achieve the best results on the ground – helping people to work together to improve their lives and neighbourhoods.
Through a web portal, attendees were able to view David’s computer screen as he gave his presentation, which centred on the need for projects to fit into an overarching, authentic narrative, work with the energy and enthusiasm of local people and ensure that local concerns are properly listened to, rather than dismissed as ‘myths’ or misconceptions. Simultaneously, participants joined a telephone conference to hear the panel talk through their presentations and answer questions sent in by email.
Managing Director of The Campaign Company, David Evans, said ‘The webinar proved an effective way for people to fit an interactive meeting into their busy schedules. We’ve had a lot of useful feedback and will be investing in developing our offering in this area in the near future.’
